64 Suspected Criminals Paraded By Ondo Police

64 suspects paraded yesterday by the Ondo State Police Command included suspected kidnappers of broadcaster with the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, Mrs Bunmi Oke, and a woman said to be the wife of erstwhile Petroleum Minister, Professor Tam David West.
Police Commissioner, Patrick Dukumor, while parading the suspects in Akure, said in all, 47 robbery suspects including a 300-level Accounting student of the University of Ado Ekiti, Oladejo Olalere, 22, and five cultists were arrested within the last two months. “The kidnappers collected a ransom of N3 million from the families of the former minister’s wife while those of the NTA staff paid N1million before their relations were set free,” the CP said.

Dukumor gave details of how the wife of the former minister was kidnapped. “Seven kidnappers invaded the residence of the former minister’s wife in Aiyedun area of Akure metropolis and abducted her but were arrested in Owo area of the state,” he said. The CP, while speaking on Mrs Bunmi Oke’s kidnap said, detectives traced the abductors to Edo State where one Michael Onaibre was arrested with the broadcaster’s blackberry phone. Dukumor assured that other kidnappers still at large would soon be arrested, but he said those in police custody will soon be arraigned.

Recovered from the suspects were 54 different types of arms and ammunition and four different types of vehicles. Also paraded was a Higher National Diploma, HND, holder, Akinjide Daniel, and two others who hacked into a bank’s website through which they sent fake credit alert to a car dealer from whom Daniel fraudulently purchased a car of N1.6 million in Akure. Akinjide who was later arrested in Lagos confessed to hacking the bank’s website. The police also paraded suspected car snatchers who were arrested at the Army barracks following a tip off that they used to drive the snatched cars there and after a week or so, drive them out to car dealers in others states.
“One Honda Accord car with number plate SQ147AAA was stolen from one Adebayo Oluwajemiluyi but later recovered after it had been re-painted and re-registered as KSF154BC,” Dukumor said, adding that many of the snatched cars were sold to dealers who in turn sold them to unsuspecting buyers across the country. He therefore urged people of the state to continue supporting the police as the war against crime and criminality in the state was a continuous process which required the collaborative efforts of all.
