Photo: Husband allegedly slits wife's throat in their home

Endurance Ajisegiri's family got a call on Sunday April 14th from her husband, Isaac Ajisegiri, informing them that she had died at their home in the Shasha area of Lagos the previous day and he had taken her corpse to the mortuary. Endurance's family immediately called the police.

So here's what happened according to friends of the late woman. Endurance (pictured above) and Isaac were married for four years and had one child together. They also ran a business together, an education consulting firm. Sometime last year, Endurance found out that her husband was having an affair with one of their employees and this caused serious problems between them. Endurance eventually moved out of her matrimonial home with her 2 year old daughter.

On Saturday morning April 13th, Isaac's friend, a guy named Stanley came to pick Endurance from her office, saying that her in-laws (mother-in-law and sister-in-law) were waiting for her at her husband's house and wanted to resolve some issues with her. Endurance went with Stanley.

The following day, her corpse was deposited at Crystal Hospital by Isaac. Her throat had been slit with a knife from inside her kitchen. Isaac told police that endurance killed herself with the knife after a serious argument. Isaac, his mother and sister (who slept in the house that night) are now in police custody. Stanley is no where to be found. The case is being handled by the Homicide Department of the State Criminal Investigation Department.

Mob Kills Suspected Bomber In Kano

A suspected bomber met his waterloo in Kano on Wednesday as he was apprehended and killed by an angry mob near the Emir of Kano’s palace.

The suspected bomber was said to have been apprehended immediately after setting off an Improvised Explosive Device near a Mosque very close to the palace of the Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero on Wednesday night.
The aggrieved residents were said to have defied the explosion, which went off at Kofar Fatalwa by the Kano Central Mosque, and arrested one of the bombers, who had arrived on a tricycle to set off the bomb.It was learnt that the residents pursued the terrorists after the blast, and burnt one of the men before handing over the other to security operatives.
The spokesperson for the Joint Task Force in Kano, Ikedioha Iweha, confirmed the explosion.
He also confirmed that no one died from the explosion, itself.
It will be recalled that the Emir escaped an assassination attempt on January 19 when gunmen threw an IED at his convoy.

Tambuwal Blasts OBJ

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, yesterday came down heavily on ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo’s eight-year rule, describing the administration as the worst defaulter of the principles of the rule of law.
He gave the indictment at the 30th Mallam Aminu Kano Memorial Lecture, which took place at the Sa’Adu Zungur Auditorium, Aminu Kano Centre for Democratic Research and Training, Mambayya House, Kano.
The lecture was chaired by Abubakar B Mahmood (SAN). It was attended by some serving lawmakers, politicians as well as academics including Dr. Junaid Mohammed, Alhaji Magaji Dambatta, Alhaji Tanko Yakassai, the Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed and the Chairman of the Implementation Committee, North-West University, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar. In his paper titled: “The rule of law as fundamental condition for democracy and good governance,” the Speaker observed that the Obasanjo administration, “ contrived the political space and usurped the powers of both the legislature and the judiciary, posing a grave danger to the democratic content of democracy.”
Tambuwal said the overall score card of the administration in the first four years was, “spotted with executive arbitrariness,” although the administration set up some institutional and administrative agencies like the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), it adopted the principle of due process and persistently proclaimed the independence of the judiciary. He said that “most of the claims of the government on the gains in the rule of law turned out to be mere political gimmicks as they were clearly unfounded and merely designed to create the impression that it was no longer business as usual in Nigeria after the prolonged military rule.”
He cited cases of the abuse of the rule of law to include the Zaki Biam and Odi massacres, the failure to respect the Supreme Court’s judgment asking the administration to remit N10.8 billion to the Lagos State Government, among others. He said that during “the Obasanjo administration, and to a lesser extent Yar’Adua/Jonathan’s, the constitutional provisions regarding the power of the purse and appropriation are overlooked in contravention of the principle of the separation of powers as well as checks and balances. “This was the case in the controversies over the implementation of the 2005, 2011 and 2012 Appropriation Acts,” he noted. According to Tambuwal, the disrespect for the rule of law has opened up another debate on the legitimacy of public officers at the national, state and local government levels.
He listed the challenges to the application of the rule of law to include five key areas. Among them is the executive over-bearance, which impacts negatively on the other arms and have further weakened non -state actors such as civil society organizations and the media; the lack of judicial independence; corruption; the scope of the doctrine of immunity as it relates to the principles of equality before the law; and the challenges of free and fair elections, which have since become a means of disenfranchising a large segment of the electorate.
The Speaker singled out the legislature and regretted that the legitimate performance of its constitutional duties tend to be perceived in the executive circles and even in some sections of the public, as legislative meddlesomeness in governance. According to him, “the legislature is the most misunderstood because of the obscurity thrust upon it by the several years of military regimes, “ pointing out that while the society will accept as justice the passing of a death sentence by a court of competent jurisdiction, the same society will react with hostility to a mere impeachment proposal by the legislative arm of government. Tambuwal was, however, confident that the country was passing through a learning process, noting that, “what is required is for public officers to develop the political mindset to change their obnoxious political culture, of absolutism in the struggles for the acquisition or retention of power.”

Confession Of A Robbery Gang In Lagos: We Have More Bullets Than Police

A suspected armed robbery kingpin whose gang allegedly killed four policemen in an operation recently has explained why they were able to perform the feat. Oluwole, a.k.a Omoba told Crime Watch at the police headquarters, Ikeja, Lagos, “we always have enough arms and ammunition.

We were always armed to the teeth. You see, the police have limited arms and ammunition that they carry about but for us, we always have more than enough.” According to Omoba, he started armed robbery five years ago and his gang had been successful except recently when they stormed Victoria Garden City (VGC) and met unusual resistance from the police. “I think, we had been very successful for the past five years.
We had robbed in many Southern states until the recent robbery at VGC where two of our members were killed. It was on March 24, the police opened fire on us. The gunshots were from back, front and the two sides. I managed to escaped but Paul and AY were killed. “It was not like that in other states.
When we fire back at police, they used to run for their lives, but these Lagos policemen were shooting and shooting that I asked my men to shoot their ways out. I was shocked with the kind of shooting I experienced that day. “In fact, since the encounter with the police, I have not gone for any robbery operation. I am still in shock, I wonder why the police were still trailing me,” he said. On why he chosed Ajah and Lekki axis for operations, he said, “I think you know that people don’t keep money at home as they used to do.
If we operate in places like Agege, Ejigbo and Ketu, how much can we find in a home? “But, in Lekki, VGC and part of Ajah, we have rich men that still keep reasonable amount of money in their homes. My brother, we have to use our brain to work.” Parading Omoba and three other members of his gang, the state Commissioner of Police Umar Manko said that on April 11, 2013, during a follow up to the robbery operation at VGC, the officer in charge of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) Abba Kyari and his team arrested two armed robbery suspects. He said Alpha Uche who was shot dead during encounter with police and one Ibrahim Akanbi confessed.
According to Manko, the suspects interrogated led the police to arrest their Armourer, Kazeem Adebola at Ayobo. He said the police recovered five AK 47 rifles, 31 AK 47 magazine loaded with 30 rounds of live ammunition and a Honda Civic Coupe with registration number FST 592 BC. He said inside the recovered vehicle were AK 47 and ammunitions concealed in a specially constructed compartment. Manko said the gang was responsible for many armed robbery operations in the Southwest. He warned criminals especially, armed robbers to leave the state or risked the wrath of the police. “Whether the criminals operate in another state and run to Lagos, we don’t want it, as we will fish them out, he declared.

64 Suspected Criminals Paraded By Ondo Police

64 suspects paraded yesterday by the Ondo State Police Command included suspected kidnappers of broadcaster with the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, Mrs Bunmi Oke, and a woman said to be the wife of erstwhile Petroleum Minister, Professor Tam David West.

Police Commissioner, Patrick Dukumor, while parading the suspects in Akure, said in all, 47 robbery suspects including a 300-level Accounting student of the University of Ado Ekiti, Oladejo Olalere, 22, and five cultists were arrested within the last two months. “The kidnappers collected a ransom of N3 million from the families of the former minister’s wife while those of the NTA staff paid N1million before their relations were set free,” the CP said.

Dukumor gave details of how the wife of the former minister was kidnapped. “Seven kidnappers invaded the residence of the former minister’s wife in Aiyedun area of Akure metropolis and abducted her but were arrested in Owo area of the state,” he said. The CP, while speaking on Mrs Bunmi Oke’s kidnap said, detectives traced the abductors to Edo State where one Michael Onaibre was arrested with the broadcaster’s blackberry phone. Dukumor assured that other kidnappers still at large would soon be arrested, but he said those in police custody will soon be arraigned.

Recovered from the suspects were 54 different types of arms and ammunition and four different types of vehicles. Also paraded was a Higher National Diploma, HND, holder, Akinjide Daniel, and two others who hacked into a bank’s website through which they sent fake credit alert to a car dealer from whom Daniel fraudulently purchased a car of N1.6 million in Akure. Akinjide who was later arrested in Lagos confessed to hacking the bank’s website. The police also paraded suspected car snatchers who were arrested at the Army barracks following a tip off that they used to drive the snatched cars there and after a week or so, drive them out to car dealers in others states.
“One Honda Accord car with number plate SQ147AAA was stolen from one Adebayo Oluwajemiluyi but later recovered after it had been re-painted and re-registered as KSF154BC,” Dukumor said, adding that many of the snatched cars were sold to dealers who in turn sold them to unsuspecting buyers across the country. He therefore urged people of the state to continue supporting the police as the war against crime and criminality in the state was a continuous process which required the collaborative efforts of all.

"Nigeria Is A Poor Country" - Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Tells CNN's Christine Amanpour

Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and the former World Bank official Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala was recently interviewed by Christiane Amanpour CNN’s chief international correspondent and anchor of Amanpour, a nightly foreign affairs program on CNN International.
photo
On the interview which aired yesterday Tuesday 16th April, 2013, Okonjo-Iweala speaks with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour about several issues touching on corruption, oil theft and Nigeria's power grid problems.
The Minister who has been lauded as just the kind of reformer that Nigeria needs, was a runner-up to lead the World Bank and "Forbes" ranked her as one of the world's most powerful women.
Speaking on the issue of corruption, Iweala explained that, “Nigeria does have a problem with corruption, and so do many other countries, including developed countries.  I don't like the fact that when people mention the name Nigeria, the next thing they say is corruption”.
According to her, “this is a country of 170 million people; 99.9 percent of them are honest, hard-working citizens who just want to get on with their lives and they want a government that delivers for them’.
Okonjo-Iweala believes technology could be the answer to the problem, “What we've said is that in order to help block any leakages and help to, you know, stop any attempts at corruption or taking monies, we must build electronic platforms.  We must distance people from the money”, she said.
‘These things were recommended by the World Bank and IMF and we are doing them”, she said. She also strongly believes that Nigeria lack institutions and processes.
About what the president is doing on this issue, the Minster explains, “what President Goodluck Jonathan has done is to call the judiciary, the legislature and the executive arm for the first time to meet together on this issue, because it’s not just about government, but about everyone coming together.
According to her, even if someone is caught, they go to the courts and they are let off lightly. ‘The president can't do anything about that.  The judicial system also has to be strengthened’, Legislators also have to crack down.  They themselves have to work at also being transparent and helping the executive”, she said.
Oil leakage causes a significant drain on the economy and the Minister puts it at 150,000 barrels stolen a day, which she admits is huge and that Nigeria cannot afford any leakage. Comparing the situation to Mexico, which sees tens of thousands of barrels stolen each day, the Minister further explained the need for the international community to weigh in to resolve the issue, and the need for Nigerians to commit to fighting it as well.
According to her, ‘Mexico and Nigeria are suffering from this problem, and in Nigeria’s case, “we have international people who also buy that stolen oil.  We need them to treat this stolen oil like stolen diamonds, the blood diamonds.  Make it blood oil.  Help us so that those people don't have a market to sell this stuff”, she said.
Speaking On the issue of electricity, Okonjo-Iweala explained saying, “Nigeria is not the only country. Almost every developing country has a problem with power, as you know. India has it, South Africa has it but South Africa is far better off because they've invested much more’. ‘Many developing countries, even China is struggling with keeping up with infrastructure”, she said.
She admits that the government is not the best place to run the power sector, and that for the economy to do better, privatization is the best option. “Nigeria is pursuing one of the most sweeping privatization programs in any country in the world. We are selling off everything.  The generation capacity, the distribution capacity in the country, government is only retaining one thing – transmission, she says.

Video: Chris Brown shouts out Wizkid & Azonto on BET’s 106 & Park

You all need to watch this video. Chris Brown, while promoting his new album on BET's 106 & Park, talks about Azonto, credits it to Nigeria (Ghana people, make una no vex abeg..hehe) and says he learnt it from Wizkid...and also says Wizzy baby is an incredible artist. Peep from 4:30 mark

The Presidency on Tuesday described a former presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), as a leading protagonist of violence.

It said that apart from his ambition to rule the country again, Buhari had refused to contribute meaningfully to actions capable of ending insecurity in the country.
Buhari, a former Head of State and now the National Leader of the CPC, had on the Hausa service of the British Broadcasting Corporation on Monday, said the Federal Government should be blamed for the lingering security challenges in the country.
He also flayed the Goodluck Jonathan administration for what he called “poor handling of insurgency” that had led to the death of many Nigerians and destruction of properties.
While reacting to this, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, told our correspondent in an interview in Abuja that it was unfortunate that such a statement could emanate from Buhari.Describing Buhari as a man he respects so much, Okupe added that he had no option but to reply to his accusations against the Federal Government and the President.
He reminded Nigerians that Buhari had previously been credited with a statement that he would make the country ungovernable if the last presidential election did not favour him.
Okupe said, “Everybody in this country knows that it was Buhari who vowed that if he did not win the election, he would make the country ungovernable for this President.
“It was this same Buhari, who said during the electioneering period that if the votes were counted and he lost, people should go for blood.
“He is not in any position to apportion blame on the issue of violence in the North or in Nigeria in general.
“He is a protagonist of violence. The only solution he sees to his not being President is to call for violence.
“This government has tried to contain some of the repercussions of the unguarded statements made by Buhari and I don’t think anybody in Nigeria will take him seriously on this allegation.”
The presidential aide added that if there were those to be blamed for the insecurity in the country, the name of Buhari should top the list.
Okupe wondered why the Katsina State-born general had refused to visit states like Borno and Yobe despite the fact that he hails from the northern part of the country.
He said, “As a former Head of State, have you ever seen him (Buhari) visiting Borno or Yobe State? Have you ever seen him show sympathy to people , either Christians or Muslims that have been killed during these attacks (by Boko Haram)?
“Have you see him as a leader, a man who traversed the entire length and breadth of the North especially to canvass for votes seeking an end to the violence; why is it that he cannot use that same clout that he has to get leaders together and say we must put an end to this carnage?
“He finds it comfortable to shift the blame to other people. What has he done as a leader, who is from that region to help Nigeria and the North out of this unfortunate development?
“Nigerians should ask him, as a former Head of State and stakeholder in the Nigeria project and a man who wants to be President again, if he would want Nigeria to be destroyed up to a point before he can try to wade in? It does not work that way.”
Okupe said that as a leader, Buhari should stop apportioning blame, but should do something crucial to bring the carnage in the country under control.
He reminded the former military ruler that during the crisis in Niger Delta, leaders from the region went into the creeks and discussed with the militants to lay down their arms.
“Has Buhari done that? When Christians were killed, he kept quiet, when mosques were bombed, he did not say anything. He doesn’t have any other interest in Nigeria but his inordinate ambition to rule,” he added.
In his reaction, Buhari said there was no way he could be involved in the discussion on how to end the carnage since he was not part of the problem.
Buhari, who spoke through the National Publicity Secretary of the CPC, Mr. Rotimi Fashakin, also said it was apparent that those responsible for the crisis in the Niger Delta were the ones that volunteered to end it.
He said, “When the Niger Delta militancy reached a crescendo, some notable people from that region went into the creeks as he (Okupe) alleged.
“The question is: ‘Who were the people who started the Niger Delta imbroglio ab initio?’ If the people that initiated and executed a problem decided to resolve it, what can anyone do about it? This is totally different from the Boko Haram palaver.”
